It became a requirement to provide a digital copy of PhD theses in 2017. Prior to this, it was not a requirement of graduation and therefore many pre-2017 theses are not available in Apollo. Provided your thesis can be made openly available in Apollo, you can make your pre-2017 thesis available in Apollo, the University's open access repository. This helps make your research more visible and accessible.
Prepare your thesis for open access
Before you send us your thesis, you must make sure that:
- you have removed or cleared any third party copyright material
- your thesis does not contain sensitive material that cannot be made public
- you have completed the deposit licence agreement
Third party copyright material includes things like images, maps, long text extracts or datasets created by others. You must either:
- get permission to include it (known as ‘clearing’ the material), or
- remove it and insert a short statement saying it has been redacted
Deposit an electronic copy of your thesis
- Complete the deposit licence agreement
- Email your completed deposit licence agreement and thesis file to thesis@repository.cam.ac.uk.
- We will create an Apollo record for you
- We will email you a link to your online thesis once it is available.
We have a small fund for digitising paper theses. If you only have a paper copy of yours, we can help digitise it and upload it to Apollo.
