Open Research

Your Article Processing Charge (APC) may be covered by one of our Read & Publish agreements. If it is not, we may be able to pay an invoice for an APC.

How to request support for your APC

We need to check the manuscript to establish whether we can pay the APC.

  • you should upload your accepted manuscript on acceptance. We will review your submission and let you know if we can pay the APC. We will ask you to send us the invoice if we can pay the invoice
  • we can also provide advice before you submit your manuscript; contact us on info@openaccess.cam.ac.uk

Please do not assume that we can pay your APC invoice without checking with us first.

Summary of conditions required for payment of APCs

We only pay invoices for APCs when the paper:

  • has been accepted for publication in an open access journal or publishing platform, and
  • the journal/platform is not covered by a Read & Publish agreement, and
  • reports original research, and
  • acknowledges research funding from British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, UKRI or Wellcome Trust. Or, we may be able to assist if there is no funding with which to pay the APC, and
  • has a University of Cambridge corresponding author.

If we cannot cover your APC then you should make the accepted manuscript available in Apollo. You can use the University’s Self-Archiving Policy to follow any funder mandates.

Paying other fees

We do not provide financial support for any other fees associated with publishing, such as mandatory publishing fees in subscription-based journals, page, colour charges or fees for permission clearance.
