The vision for open research infrastructure at Cambridge is to meet researchers’ needs across the full research life cycle. Key to this is the development of innovative and appropriate open systems and infrastructure to supply streamlined and integrated services.
An open research infrastructure roadmap is being implemented to realise this vision. This is part of a wider Open Research Programme, led by University of Cambridge Libraries and Archives in collaboration with other University partners.
Main development areas are:
- open research and scholarly publishing
- enhanced Research Data Management (RDM) service provision
- digital preservation
Supporting critical research infrastructures is an important component of the open infrastructure roadmap. Our core projects and services rely on open, community-driven platforms. We take an active role in supporting the development of those platforms. Key initiatives and open-source tools we are supporting include:
Open platforms for disseminating and accessing research
- LYRASIS DSpace and Fedora
- COAR (Confederation of Open Access Repositories)
- CORE (COnnecting REpositories)
- ORCiD
- DataCite
- Directory of Open Access Books
- OAPEN
- arXiv
